Five Things which will please your guests
28 Oct, 2016

You've invited friends and family to help you celebrate your wedding.  You plan to feed them, entertain them and thank them for being part of your special day.  But in the big picture of your event, it is wise to be reminded of the little things that make it a pleasant experience for your guests.  Here are some of the ideas that guests have remembered and shared with us.

1.  If you are planning a wedding website, remember that it should exist as a convenience for your guests - not as a billboard for your wedding.  Make it comprehensive - everything a guest needs to know to attend your wedding events and celebrations.  Look at it from the guest's perspective and see what you need to include to make it easier for them to participate. Be clear about locations, directions, time schedule, hotel accommodations.  Many brides include their gift registry options.  If they have questions, be sure to respond promptly.

2. Make sure that on your wedding day you wear your happy face.  You have planned a great event, now relax and let the good times roll.  You've done your best.  You have helpers/consultants/ friends to handle details.  Now smile and enjoy what you've planned.  There is nothing more satisfying for guests than to have been greeted and thanked by a truly happy couple.  We have heard stories of brides who sat at tables with guests and told "horror" stories of plans gone amiss and how they couldn't wait for the day to be over.  Really?

3.  If your wedding is big enough or has a ceremony at one place and a reception at another, plan on having ample signage for guests.  Make it clear about times, places, schedules.  Invest a little money in making the signs memorable and in keeping with the theme of your event.

4. Make sure you have a variety of foods available at your reception.  Instead of a plated dinner of just prime rib, consider offering a choice for guests.  Consider dietary needs of guests and perhaps consider a vegetarian option, gluten free specialties and general favorites for a majority.  If you are adding a regional specialty or a nationality dish that may be unfamiliar to guests, explain what it is with elegant tent cards.  And remember that guests hate waiting for the couple to appear at the reception.  If guests will arrive well in advance of the bridal party because of post ceremony pictures, arrange to have hors d'oeuvres and drinks available as well as activities which would help pass the time.

5.  Check out the restrooms that will be available to guests at your reception and consider providing some amenities like hair spray, hand lotion, tissues, band aids, a sewing kit.  These would be a nice touch.
